Megacities - nightmare or chance for developing countries?

Abstract

According to all reliable prognoses the new century will be a century of massive urbanization and immense city agglomerations - especially in developing countries. Already in a few years more than half of the world's population will live in cities, international development agencies have predicted more than 300 cities with over a million inhabitants for 2025, the largest part of these in Asia.
